Ryan Garcia might face disciplinary actions and fines following his surprising victory over Devin Haney in April, after both his pre-and post-fight drug tests showed positive results for the banned substance Ostarine.
ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reported that the B-sample confirmed the presence of Ostarine, the same substance found in Garcia’s A-sample. This performance-enhancing drug has been prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency since 2008.
Garcia’s legal team is preparing to defend the 25-year-old boxer at a formal hearing with the New York State Athletic Commission. They plan to argue that the positive test resulted from a contaminated supplement Garcia consumed before the fight.

Star boxer Ryan Garcia’s B-sample returned an adverse finding for the banned substance ostarine on Thursday, per a Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory report viewed by ESPN.
The A-sample, which was collected the day before and the day of his upset win over Devin Haney last month, returned an adverse finding for ostarine May 1.
Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) that attaches to proteins in the body and effectively signals for muscles to grow. It is used to aid performance by helping athletes build muscle mass and enhance their rate of fat loss, as well as to increase stamina and recovery ability.
If Garcia’s team successfully proves the contamination claim, he might be exonerated. Failure to do so could lead to substantial fines and a possible suspension of his boxing license.
Going into the fight, Haney held an undefeated record of 31–0, while Garcia had suffered only one defeat, to Gervonta Davis in 2023.
