Ryan Clark faced backlash this offseason for making controversial comments about Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, questioning his work ethic and preseason training.
Clark’s remark, in which he compared Tagovailoa’s physique to that of a “girl working at [strip club] Onyx in Atlanta,” did not sit well with Dolphins fans.
Tagovailoa responded fiercely to the off-field criticism, advising the former NFL defender to “keep [his] name out of his mouth.”
Shortly thereafter, Clark issued an apology, explaining that his comment was intended as a joke.
However, Clark found himself in a precarious position following Tagovailoa’s season opener performance.
The young quarterback delivered an exceptional performance, throwing for 466 yards and three touchdowns.
His fourth-quarter touchdown pass with less than two minutes remaining proved decisive as the Dolphins secured a 36-34 victory over the Chargers in Los Angeles.
Ryan Clark did acknowledge Tagovailoa’s outstanding play with a series of posts on social media.
Nevertheless, Dolphins fans were quick to remind him of his preseason comments, ensuring that he couldn’t easily retract his earlier remarks.
