Russell Wilson is wasting no time embarking on his free agency tour, with reports indicating he’s set to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers this Friday.
Scheduled to be released by the Denver Broncos at the start of the new league year, Wilson has been granted permission to explore opportunities with other teams.
While the meeting between Wilson and the Steelers has yet to commence, signs point to his imminent arrival in the Steel City. A snapshot of Wilson boarding a flight out of Newark Airport surfaced on social media early Friday morning.
Reports from Gerry Dulac suggest that Pittsburgh is keen on securing Wilson’s services, recognizing the value he brings in terms of experience to bolster Mike Tomlin’s quarterback ranks, currently led by Kenny Pickett.

Given Wilson’s substantial earnings from the Broncos this year, speculation abounds that he may be inclined to sign a team-friendly deal with his next destination. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggests that a veteran minimum salary could be in the cards.
“He wants to help his new team by being a bargain,” Fowler explained. “So, there will be a market for that. He wants to go to a team, I’m told, to not only win but has an infrastructure, a history of winning.”
Indeed, the Steelers boast a storied “history of winning,” having never suffered a losing season under Tomlin’s stewardship.
However, it’s worth noting that Pittsburgh isn’t the sole suitor vying for Wilson’s signature. The Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants have also expressed interest in acquiring his talents.
