Russell Wilson has officially chosen his next team.
On Sunday night, Wilson took to social media to announce his decision to join the Pittsburgh Steelers. Accompanied by the song “Renegade” by Styx, a familiar anthem at Steelers home games, the video showcased enthusiastic Steelers fans brandishing Terrible Towels.
Wilson’s contract with Pittsburgh is set for one year. Interestingly, the Denver Broncos will be footing a significant portion of Wilson’s salary this season, amounting to $38 million, following his release despite contractual obligations. Consequently, the Steelers will secure Wilson’s services for approximately $1.2 million.
The quarterback dynamics in Pittsburgh promise intrigue. Kenny Pickett, a first-round selection by the Steelers in 2022, has shown promise but has yet to deliver stellar statistics, tallying 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions across 25 career games. Nonetheless, the Steelers have managed a commendable 14-10 record in games Pickett has started.

Despite a decline in production leading to his release from the Broncos, Wilson presents a compelling alternative to Pickett for the Steelers. While Wilson’s performance in the previous season didn’t reach extraordinary heights, he still posted respectable numbers with 3,070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.
As training camp approaches, it remains to be seen who will emerge as the Steelers’ top choice for the upcoming season.
