The Denver Broncos further dimmed their playoff prospects with a 42-17 loss to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Saturday. This defeat marks the Broncos’ second in their last three games, with the offense struggling to find its rhythm.
The frustration reached a boiling point when a touchdown was nullified due to an offsides penalty, prompting a viral moment of head coach Sean Payton expressing his displeasure to quarterback Russell Wilson on the sidelines.
In the aftermath of the loss, 35-year-old Wilson was questioned by reporters about whether he believes Payton still has confidence in him. Wilson responded affirmatively, stating, “Yeah, I mean, of course. I think the biggest thing is we’re trying to score a touchdown there. I think we all want to score there. I think that’s our focus, and that’s — you want a coach that’s passionate.”
He continued, emphasizing the shared desire for success among coaches and players. Wilson acknowledged the team’s collective focus on scoring touchdowns and expressed his commitment to concentrating on the next play.
In the 2023 season, Wilson has completed 66 percent of his passes, amassing 2,832 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Notably, he agreed to a five-year, $242 million contract extension with the Broncos in 2022.
