This would certainly be a shocker.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. could make his way into the Top 10 of the NFL draft.
It’s believed that Penix Jr. could go as high as the eighth overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons brought in quarterback Kirk Cousins to lead their offense this offseason so drafting a quarterback in the first round would be a major surprise if they indeed do so.
The oddsmakers aren’t taking much stock into this rumor though as Penix Jr. is still listed at +1000 to be selected in the Top 10 according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
As for the Falcons in particular, DraftKings Sportsbook has them at +3000 to select a quarterback with their first draft pick so this rumor appears to be a major stretch.

Schefter claims that Penix Jr.’s draft watch “starts with the Atlanta Falcons with the eighth overall pick, but that seems extremely unlikely.
After that the Chicago Bears have the ninth overall pick and the New York Jets have the tenth overall pick.
Assuming the Bears take quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick then it won’t be Penix Jr. at the nine unless the Bears trade down to a team looking to draft a quarterback.
The Jets are +10000 to draft a quarterback with their first draft pick so that’s not a realistic landing spot for Penix Jr. either.
