Robert Griffin III may have parted ways with ESPN on Thursday, but his sense of humor remained intact.
Following the news of his departure, Griffin went viral with a witty post on X. The former NFL quarterback shared a brief, 6-second clip from the 1995 comedy classic “Friday.”
In the clip, a bewildered father asks his son how he managed to get fired on his day off—a moment of disbelief that resonated all too well with Griffin’s situation.
For Griffin, that humorous scene from the movie reflected an unfortunate reality.

Hired by ESPN in 2021, Griffin still had two years left on his contract with the network. During his tenure, he took on multiple broadcasting roles, including serving as a panelist on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” pregame show.
However, he was recently replaced by Jason Kelce in that role. Griffin also provided analysis for some of ESPN’s top college football games.
Despite the setback, there’s speculation that the former Heisman Trophy winner could soon find a new home at a rival network.
