With the recent trade involving Justin Fields, the Chicago Bears appear poised to select Caleb Williams in the upcoming draft. However, former quarterback Robert Griffin III suggests Williams should consider alternative options.
Earlier this week, Griffin advocated for Williams to emulate Eli Manning‘s infamous draft-day maneuver and engineer a trade. Griffin, now an ESPN analyst, expressed concerns about Williams, a fellow Heisman Trophy recipient, facing immediate pressure in what he describes as a “lame-duck season” for head coach Matt Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles.
Reiterating his stance on his RG3 and The Ones podcast, Griffin emphasized that Williams should inform the Bears of his unwillingness to join their team, advising them not to select him in the draft.
Griffin praised Williams as the top quarterback prospect in the draft and acknowledged the Bears’ offseason acquisitions of D’Andre Swift and Keenan Allen. Despite this, he believes the situation in Chicago is unfavorable for Williams without a long-term commitment to Eberflus.

While acknowledging the talent surrounding Williams, Griffin highlighted the absence of stability in the Bears’ front office. He stressed the importance of extending Eberflus to provide stability and allow for the development of Williams over the next few years.
Griffin criticized the Bears’ track record of failing to develop star quarterbacks over the past century and expressed concern about Williams facing the same coaching turnover experienced by recent first-round picks like Fields and Mitchell Trubisky.
Regarding alternative destinations, Griffin suggested that Williams could thrive with the Washington Commanders, citing the opportunity for a fresh start under new ownership and coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
