Despite having just two playoff wins under his belt, Dak Prescott is poised to secure another lucrative deal.
The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for contract negotiations with Dak Prescott this offseason, but it appears the star quarterback won’t be offering any hometown discounts.
According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, Prescott is expected to aim for an annual salary of $60 million in his next contract. This figure would significantly surpass the current market standard but is warranted considering Prescott’s exceptional performance in the 2023 season, where he showcased MVP-caliber skills.
Schultz emphasized Prescott’s strong position, given his remarkable season and the Cowboys’ dependency on him. With Prescott slated to count $59.5 million against the salary cap in 2024 and having contractual safeguards against franchise tagging, Dallas is compelled to secure his long-term future.

“I’ve been on the record — I believe Dak Prescott is gonna come in somewhere along the lines of $60 million per year, potentially making him the highest-paid quarterback in football and resetting his quarterback market,” Schultz said. “He played that well and really for most of the season, especially that back half of the year, Dak Prescott was the MVP favorite or in that conversation and obviously finished inside the top five. So, he really was there throughout.”
Despite the financial implications, the Cowboys anticipated this scenario when they inked Prescott to a 4-year, $160 million extension in 2021. With Prescott’s stellar stats of 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions in the last season, the need for renegotiation is evident.
Furthermore, the advancing age of owner Jerry Jones, who is keen on securing another Super Bowl victory, adds urgency to retaining Prescott. Jones has made commitments to the upcoming season and is unlikely to gamble on the quarterback position.
In today’s NFL, where Joe Burrow sets the pace with a $55 million average annual salary, Dak Prescott’s request for $60 million may seem reasonable in context, though it also appears somewhat extravagant. Given his accomplishments and importance to the team, Prescott is unlikely to settle for less than what he perceives as fair compensation.
