Jimmy Garoppolo could be though in Las Vegas before even starting a game.
After undergoing foot surgery in March, the Raiders may be without their newly signed quarterback for much of the offseason.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, there is an addendum in Garoppolo’s contract which waives the risk of additional injury up to and including “permanent disability.” This would allow the Raiders to cut Garoppolo without any salary cap ramifications.
Now a Sports Illustrated report has come out that former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl Champion Carson Wentz may be an option for the Raiders.
Wentz played poorly for the Washington Commanders last season and is currently a free agent.
With the prospect that Jimmy Garoppolo could miss some time, odds were released as to who is most likely to replace him. Tom Brady was considered most likely to replace him at the time. It would be unwise to take those odds after Brady confirmed that he’s officially done with football.
Without Garoppolo, the Raiders don’t have a lot of options. Carson Wentz may have the best overall track record in replacing him. However, he has done little with the Colts and Commanders the last two seasons to inspire any confidence.
