After being released by the Minnesota Vikings, Dalvin Cook has garnered interest from multiple NFL teams.
However, it appears that Cook has a preference for one team in particular.
The four-time Pro Bowl selection had a successful 1,000-yard season and is turning 27 years old on August 10.
In Minnesota, Cook served as the main running back, accumulating 1,468 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns from 303 touches. Throughout his career, Cook has amassed 5,993 rushing yards, 1,794 receiving yards, and 52 total touchdowns in 73 games, with an average of 4.7 yards per carry.
Despite Cook’s accomplishments, the Vikings decided to move on from him during the offseason.
Despite efforts to trade him, Cook was eventually released and became a free agent. The New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots have displayed interest in signing Cook during the past two months.
According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, the word around the NFL is that Cook is particularly interested in playing for the Jets.
Breer stated on The Rich Eisen Show, “I think Dalvin wants to be in New York…I’ve heard for about a month now that he really likes the idea of playing with the Jets, with Aaron Rodgers. He went there with the idea that there’s a really good chance he’s going to play for the Jets this year.”
Initially, it was expected that Cook would sign with the Miami Dolphins. Being a native of Florida, Cook grew up in Opa-locka, Florida and played for Miami Central High School before excelling as an All-American at Florida State. The Dolphins’ offense seemed like an ideal fit for Cook, as he would have been the primary running back, sharing touches with Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. However, Miami views rookie running back Devon Achane highly and is not offering Cook the desired role or salary.
While the New England Patriots remain an option, Cook would serve as the second running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson. Alternatively, the Patriots could pursue Leonard Fournette or Ezekiel Elliott, both of whom have visited the team as free agents.
Should Cook sign with the Jets, he would split touches with Michael Carter and Breece Hall. Although Hall is seen as the long-term featured back in New York, signing Cook would allow the Jets to gradually ease him into the role during the current season.
