A report by The Athletic indicates that former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers asked for general manager Brian Gutekunst to be fired.
According to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, Aaron Rodgers asked this through his agent to Packers president Mark Murphy.
Of course, Rodgers’ request was not honored, and he was traded to the New York Jets.
This ultimatum reportedly came early in the 2021 offseason. It was very clear: fire Gutekunst or trade Rodgers.
The anonymous source of this information suggests that this was pivotal in the deterioration of the relationship between Rodgers and the Packers’ front office.
Rodgers now enters the 2023 season as a New York Jet. The Packers will be turning to Jordan Love at quarterback.
