A brawl unfolded during a youth basketball game between Cherry Creek and Legend Blue over the past weekend, involving two referees who squared off at half court. The situation escalated quickly after the first punch was thrown, prompting bystanders to intervene and prevent further escalation.
Footage of the incident initially surfaced on X, formerly known as Twitter, depicting an unsettling scene. Gold Crown, the venue hosting the game, issued a statement to OutKick in response to the situation, expressing apologies to those who witnessed the unacceptable behavior, especially the children.
The statement read, “Most importantly, we apologize to everyone that had to witness their unacceptable behavior – especially the kids. We hold all parties in our programs to very high standards, which in this case, were clearly not met. This is an unfortunate reminder that we all need to keep the kids’ best interest in mind and that our adult behavior plays a pivotal role in youth sports.”

It continued, “Let this also be a reminder to everyone that Gold Crown has zero tolerance for any adult behavior that puts the kids’ experience or safety at risk. Again, our sincerest apologies to everyone who had to witness the incident this morning. We look forward to getting our league back on track and resume what will be a great season for the kids.”
According to TMZ Sports, the police are currently investigating the incident. The statement concluded with a reminder that referee-on-referee violence is never an acceptable solution.
