Following the resolution of a traffic stop incident in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Vikings have decided to suspend their offensive coordinator, Wes Phillips, for three weeks.
Phillips’ suspension comes as the team continues its preparations for the NFL Draft scheduled later this month. While he will miss a significant portion of the draft preparations, Phillips is expected to rejoin the team when activities commence on April 25.
The suspension stems from Phillips’ arrest in late 2023, where he exhibited signs of impairment during a traffic stop on the interstate. Subsequent blood alcohol testing revealed a level of 0.10, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08 in Minnesota. Phillips spent a night in jail before being released on bond the following morning.

In February, Phillips pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor careless driving charge and was sentenced to pay a fine and complete eight hours of community service within 60 days. Following his sentencing, Phillips expressed understanding of the standards expected from the NFL and the Vikings, admitting that he did not live up to those standards.
With the NFL Draft approaching, the Vikings hold the 11th and 23rd picks in the first round. After Kirk Cousins’ departure to the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, the team faces decisions about potentially selecting a quarterback with one of their picks or exploring trade opportunities to move up in the draft order.
