On Thursday, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice voluntarily surrendered to the Glenn Heights Police Department, as reported by Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star.
This action followed the issuance of a warrant for his arrest on Wednesday regarding his alleged involvement in a multi-vehicle crash back on March 30 in Dallas, Texas
During the legal proceedings, Rice’s bond was set at a total of $40,000.
Alongside his former teammate at SMU, cornerback Teddy Knox, Rice faces serious charges, including six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of aggravated assault (classified as a third-degree felony), and one count of collision involving serious bodily injury (classified as a second-degree felony).
After turning himself in, Rice’s mugshot has was released.
The latter two charges alone carrying a maximum sentence of 10 and 20 years, respectively.
Rice’s involvement in the incident occurred while he was driving a Lamborghini SUV leased from Classic Lifestyle, while Knox allegedly was driving a Corvette which was registered under Rice’s name.
The two were allegedly racing at the time of the accident.
Rice was a rookie out of SMU for the Kansas City Chiefs last season as he helped them to a second consecutive Super Bowl championship.
For the 2023 regular season, Rice had 938 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns on 79 catches over 16 games.
