LeBron James is often likened to a football player in a basketball uniform.
LeBron James has always embodied superhuman athleticism. From his early days as a standout in high school, he’s consistently left fans in awe of his prowess on the basketball court. But it’s not the only arena where he could have excelled.
During the 2011 NBA lockout, LeBron James was frequently spotted engaging in flag football games. What’s more, he even received two offers to try out for NFL teams during the lockout period.
James showcased his football skills in high school, and a recent viral video from his high school days captured him in action as a wide receiver. However, it became clear by his junior year that basketball was the path to his success, and it’s evident he made the right choice.
Watch below:
His former quarterback, Chris Wooley, recalled their time on the field in high school and how James could effortlessly make catches within a 10-15 yard radius.
According to Matt McDonald, who shared insights with Bleacher Report in 2017, no one could match up with LeBron James on the football field.
“The biggest thing about him playing football was the worry that he would get hurt, but you would see him out there and it’s like, he’s not the guy that’s going to get hurt. It’s the guys he’s going against. It’s at a point where he was so much better than everyone else that not even the big guys could hurt him.”
In his 20th season, James averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 0.9 steals in 35.5 minutes.
It’s intriguing to ponder what might have been if LeBron had chosen football instead of basketball.
