Las Vegas Raiders’ standout defensive end, Maxx Crosby, recently offered his perspective on head coach Antonio Pierce’s intriguing “Mahomes rules” comment made a couple of weeks ago.
Pierce’s statement during a recent appearance on Crosby’s “The Rush” podcast sparked headlines, drawing parallels between the famed “Jordan Rules” and the strategy needed to contain Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes:
“We’ve got the Jordan rules and we’ve got what I’m calling now, from now on as long as I’m here, the Patrick Mahomes rules… We’re in his head, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, I’m touching you. So I showed my guys Jordan getting his a*s whooped. We’ve got to knock off the head of the snake. Fifteen. Hate the color red. There’s a hatred for the Chiefs.”

While some critics interpreted Pierce’s comments as implying an intent to injure Mahomes, Crosby clarified that this wasn’t the case. However, he issued a stern warning to Mahomes, emphasizing the need to disrupt his play:
“People are sensitive these days, so they take things out of context… But, yeah, he’s got multiple MVPs and Super Bowls; if we wanna win, we gotta take him down… It’s not malicious… we play with ill intent, and we play violent.”
Mahomes has historically dominated against the Raiders, winning 10 out of 12 starts while posting impressive passing statistics. However, the Raiders have managed to defeat Mahomes at Arrowhead Stadium twice, showcasing their capability to challenge the Chiefs.
In their recent victory over the Chiefs, Pierce and the Raiders executed a nearly flawless game plan, limiting Mahomes and the Chiefs to just 14 points in a 20-14 triumph at Arrowhead.
Despite the Chiefs’ dominance in the rivalry, Pierce’s “Jordan Rules” comment, along with Crosby’s remarks, has added a compelling dimension to the historic matchup as they prepare to face off in the upcoming season.
