Rachel Nichols recently recounted an unfortunate incident involving an executive from her past workplace.

Nichols revealed that she hesitated to disclose her pregnancy to her employers, anticipating a negative impact on her professional standing. She explained, “When I was pregnant, I waited so long to tell them. I waited so long because I knew that this was not going to be good for me professionally.” Nichols, who had been married for ten years before deciding to have children, weighed the personal joy of having a family against potential repercussions for her hard-earned career.
The unnamed executive expressed congratulations initially but promptly cast doubt on Nichols’ future with the company. She recalled the executive saying, “This is great, congratulations, I’m so happy for you, it’s been so nice working with you.” However, Nichols claimed that she was informed that having a child would hinder her ability to perform her job effectively due to schedule disruptions.
Although Nichols did not disclose the executive’s identity or the company involved, speculation points to the incident occurring during her time with ESPN. Since leaving ESPN, Nichols has secured various roles, including a position on FS1’s revamped ‘Undisputed.’
