Matt Araiza, the former Buffalo Bills punter, is poised for another opportunity in the NFL.
His agency confirmed Thursday that Araiza is joining the Kansas City Chiefs, expressing excitement for the next chapter in his career and extending gratitude to his family and supporters.
“I am proud and honored to sign a contract with the @Chiefs. I am thrilled to be able to continue my NFL career. I want to thank my family, who have been my rock and my many friends who have been unwavering in their support,” Araiza stated in remarks shared by his agency.
Araiza, who made a name for himself at San Diego State, faced a tumultuous period after being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2022 draft. Along with four former college teammates, he was accused of raping a minor in October 2017. However, following an investigation, no charges were filed, and in December 2023, the accuser dropped her civil suit against Araiza as part of an agreement, clearing the path for him to resume his NFL career.
Reacting to the news, Araiza’s agent took to Instagram, describing the journey as the “longest 18 months” and welcoming him to the Chiefs Kingdom.

With Chiefs punter Tommy Townsend set to become a free agent next month, Araiza has a genuine opportunity to secure the punting role if the veteran doesn’t return. During his brief tenure with the Bills, Araiza showcased his skills, demonstrating their potential at the NFL level.
