It has become a tradition for the sitting United States president to conduct an interview with the network airing the Super Bowl on the Sunday of the big game. However, this practice has waned in recent years.
Once again, President Biden has chosen to forgo a Super Bowl Sunday interview, despite CBS airing the game this year.
“President Biden has declined to take part in a pre-game Super Bowl interview, CBS News confirms, marking the second consecutive year he has chosen to do so — even though the conversation might reach millions in an election year…,” as reported by Variety.
The decision doesn’t come as a surprise.
“Good. I’d rather politics be kept out of the Super Bowl and was never a fan of this fairly recent custom of airing an interview on game day,” expressed one fan.
“The idea that Biden would be scared of even doing a sit-down with, I don’t know, Obama family friend and Democratic Party donor Gayle King of ‘CBS Mornings’ is comical,” added another fan.
“Those interviews, no matter the year, are straight up cringe. Good for him saying no,” echoed another fan.
“I think it’s smart. A lot of people across the country have become increasingly upset about politics being inserted into sports,” remarked one fan.
Super Bowl 58 is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. E.T. on Sunday, February 11, airing on CBS.
