As LeBron James concludes his 21st NBA season, speculation about his next move is intensifying.
This isn’t the first time we’ve pondered his future; it’s become somewhat of a recurring theme in his storied career. This season, he averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game, shooting 54% from the field and a career-high 41% from three-point range. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Star team for the 20th consecutive year.
Now at nearly 40 years old, LeBron remains one of the top players in the league. However, after the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated in the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets for the second straight year, rumors are swirling about his departure, particularly to the Philadelphia 76ers.
The buzz around this move grew when reports surfaced that LeBron’s son, Bronny James, has been in talks with Villanova’s assistant coach Mike Nardi about possibly playing his sophomore college season there. The proximity to Philadelphia is seen as a strategic move by LeBron to keep his family close.
This potential setup would not only bring LeBron to the 76ers but could also eventually unite him with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and possibly Bronny.

Adding fuel to the speculation, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the 76ers had expressed interest in trading for James before the February trade deadline, indicating their willingness to use their considerable cap space to secure him this summer.
Additionally, Bronny could transfer to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where LeBron’s high school teammate, Dru Joyce, coaches, further keeping the family within close proximity due to the short flight between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
LeBron has a player option with the Lakers for the 2024–25 season, but his desire to play alongside his son before retiring might see him lean towards a team that can facilitate this. Philadelphia, with about $60 million in expected cap space and several draft picks in the coming years, appears to be a strong contender to make LeBron’s wish a reality.
