The Newport Beach Police Department declared on Wednesday that they could not substantiate any criminal activity related to Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey.
Consequently, the police are concluding their inquiry into the allegations suggesting Giddey’s involvement with a female minor, which had surfaced on social media in November. Both the Newport Beach PD and the NBA initiated separate investigations shortly afterward.
Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault had previously characterized Giddey’s situation as a “personal matter” and noted that the organization made the decision for the player to remain active based on the available facts. Giddey himself has not publicly addressed the situation.

Last year, Giddey and the Thunder declined to comment on the matter. The 21-year-old continued to play without missing any games due to the ongoing investigation.
While the NBA launched its own inquiry, Commissioner Adam Silver stated that the league would defer to the police investigations. Giddey, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, is currently in his third season with the Thunder, having played one professional term with the NBL’s Adelaide 36ers in his native Australia.
