The father of Philadelphia Eagles star, Alibay Barkley, was reportedly found with a loaded gun during a traffic stop in the Bronx, as per multiple reports.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at the intersection of 140th Street and Third Avenue in Mott Haven, and was reported by Fox News the following day.
It remains unclear whether there were other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Alibay Barkley, father to former Giants running back Saquon Barkley who grew up in the Bronx, might now face charges for criminal possession of a weapon.
Saquon Barkley joined the Eagles as a free agent in March after being named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2018. Not much is widely known about his father, other than his past as a boxer and a year spent in prison during Saquon’s youth, as reported by Essentially Sports. Following his incarceration, Barkley Sr relocated his family from New York to Pennsylvania.

During his father’s time in prison, Saquon experienced homelessness. Saquon’s brother, Alibay Jr., was a baseball player drafted by the MLB’s Los Angeles Angels, and his great uncle is former UFC heavyweight Iran Barkley.
The Eagles recently secured Saquon with a three-year, $37.75 million deal, making his annual average salary one of the highest among NFL running backs. Last season, Saquon rushed for 962 yards and scored six touchdowns over 14 starts with the Giants, narrowly missing his fourth 1,000-yard season. In his final game for the Giants, he amassed 97 yards and two touchdowns in a victory over the Eagles.
Throughout his career, Barkley has accumulated 865 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games against Philadelphia. Drafted second overall in 2018, he has earned two Pro Bowl selections and stands as the fourth all-time leading rusher for the Giants with 5,211 yards in 74 starts.
Replacing D’Andre Swift in Philadelphia, who moved to the Chicago Bears after a standout season, Barkley’s contract includes $25.5 million guaranteed and an $11.625 million signing bonus. Only $1.5 million of his base salary for 2026 is guaranteed.
During his college years at Penn State, Saquon was recognized as an All-American and twice named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, rushing for 3,843 yards and 43 touchdowns over three seasons.
