Ricky Council IV is a promising young talent, and his future in the NBA looks bright. As an undrafted rookie with the Philadelphia 76ers last season, Council IV defied the odds by earning valuable playing time, a rare feat for any undrafted player. The former University of Arkansas standout also impressed during the NBA Summer League, further solidifying his potential.
During the 2023-2024 season, Council IV averaged 5.4 points and 1.4 rebounds while shooting an impressive 48 percent from the floor, all in just nine minutes per game. His contributions, though limited in minutes, hinted at his ability to become a reliable player in the league.
Now firmly part of a 76ers squad known for its big personalities—headlined by stars like Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey—Council IV is adjusting to life as “one of the boys.” Recently, the team took a vacation boat trip to Mexico, and Council IV found himself at the center of attention—but not for his basketball skills. In a photo posted by the official 76ers X (formerly Twitter) account, Council IV and teammate Maxey were seen posing aboard a yacht. However, it wasn’t the picturesque ocean or camaraderie that stood out—it was Council IV’s choice of attire.

Specifically, it was his socks that became the target of playful roasting. Even the 76ers’ social media team couldn’t resist poking fun, captioning the photo, “sixers at sea. ??? (socks on a boat is crazy tho @Rickythe4th ?).” Maxey chimed in as well, laughingly commenting that the socks were “ridiculous.”
In a second picture from the boat trip, Council IV was again the only one sporting socks, while the rest of the team embraced the usual barefoot or sandal look.
The internet, as expected, had a field day with the unusual fashion choice. Fans flooded the comments with jokes, including one fan who quipped, “Sails out, nails out bro!” Others couldn’t help but draw comparisons to the infamous New York Giants’ boat photo that became the subject of endless memes.
While the socks may not have given off a “Georgina and Ronaldo yacht vibe,” as one fan put it, Council IV certainly looked comfortable aboard the boat, even if his footwear became a punchline. Of course, the hope among fans is that Council IV ditches the socks if he decides to take a dip in the water.
Despite the light-hearted teasing, Council IV is making a name for himself in the league and within the 76ers’ locker room.
His playful moment with Maxey and the team’s social media is just another example of how he’s fitting in and enjoying his time off the court. But for now, his socks-on-a-boat fashion statement is the talk of the internet.
