After an encouraging start with a one-under 71 in the opening round of the Masters, Viktor Hovland looked poised to make the cut.
However, his performance unexpectedly unraveled during the second round, particularly on the par-5 15th hole.
Hovland’s round began on a sour note with a bogey on the first hole followed by a triple bogey on the second, from which he struggled to recover. His troubles peaked on the 15th, where, despite being just five feet away from par, he required three putts to finish the hole, severely impacting his score.

Ultimately, Hovland ended the tournament at eight-over par, missing the six-over par cut line, which was influenced by challenging wind conditions at Augusta National. Adding to the disappointment for Hovland’s fans, it was announced on Saturday that he would be withdrawing from the upcoming RBC Heritage tournament.
PGA Tour Communications confirmed, “Viktor Hovland WD from next week’s RBC Heritage. The field will be finalized after the conclusion of the Masters Tournament.” The reasons for his withdrawal remain unclear, whether it’s for a mental reset or to deal with a potential, undisclosed injury.
This break could be a necessary respite for Hovland after the demanding experience at Augusta National, allowing him time to regroup before his next appearance.
