No one expected Scottie Scheffler to start his Friday morning in a jail cell, but that’s exactly what happened.
Scheffler was arrested near Valhalla Golf Club on Friday and charged with reckless driving, second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer.
Despite his unexpected detour to jail, Scheffler returned to the course later that day and shot a 5-under 66. He is currently near the top of the leaderboard.
After completing his second round at the PGA Championship, Scheffler spoke about his experience with the Louisville Metro Police Department. He admitted to doing his morning stretches in a jail cell and shared what he could remember about the surreal experience.

“I feel like my head is still spinning,” Scheffler said, via Jeff Darlington. “I can’t really explain what happened. I did spend some time stretching in the jail cell.”
Before answering questions about his arrest, Scheffler expressed his condolences to the family of John Mills, the 69-year-old who tragically passed away after being struck by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club.
“My sympathies go out to the family of Mr. Mills,” Scheffler said. “I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now.”
Scheffler handled his press conference with professionalism.
Golf fans will see Scheffler back in action on Saturday, as the world No. 1 remains firmly in contention for another major championship.
