Former Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning may have tipped off the team’s draft interests during a recent appearance on 104.3 The Fan.
The Hall of Famer mentioned that the Broncos are “very interested” in Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, hinting that McCarthy would also be keen on joining the Denver team.
This revelation quickly stirred up reactions on social media, where fans debated the feasibility of acquiring McCarthy. Some expressed skepticism about Denver’s ability to secure a higher draft pick, given their current assets.
One fan commented, “that is all true but we won’t be able to draft him and with our current roster do not have the capital to trade up to get him,” highlighting concerns over the team’s draft capital. Another fan hoped for success, saying, “If J.J. is their guy, I truly hope the #Broncos are able to get him.”

A Chiefs fan, on the other hand, suggested that drafting McCarthy could be a misstep for Denver: “I am absolutely begging the Broncos to trade up (without a 2nd round pick this year) into the top 6 picks to take McCarthy. To put him in camp with Zach Wilson, Cortland Sutton and Josh Reynolds. And instantly rely on him to be the savior. Bad teams stay bad,” they remarked.
Adding to the speculation, Broncos head coach Sean Payton disclosed that the team had a private workout with McCarthy. “I wasn’t at J.J.’s pro day, but we had a private (workout with him) the next day where we sent him a bunch of information, spent four or five hours with him, just made him throw all over again,” Payton explained, as reported by 9NEWS. “I think it’s all part of the process. I think it can lead to a more efficient and effective decision.”
As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, McCarthy is widely expected to be a top 10 pick, intensifying the discussion around the Broncos’ draft strategy and potential moves to secure his selection.
