Few people know football as well as Peyton Manning.
The legendary quarterback possessed not only incredible physical talent in his right arm but was also one of the most cerebral quarterbacks in the game’s history. Alongside Tom Brady, Manning is often considered one of the most intelligent players ever to step onto the field.
Flag football is set to make its debut in the Olympic Games in four years, and speculation is rampant about whether the NFL’s biggest stars will represent Team USA. If they do, it could form an exceptionally talented team.
While the roster of players remains unknown, a potential coach may have already emerged. On Thursday, Peyton Manning expressed his interest in coaching the inaugural Team USA Flag Football Olympic Team.
“You mentioned my youth flag football coaching. I was probably a better coach of our youth flag football team here in Denver than I have been in the Pro Bowl. Pat, I’m 0-2 as a Pro Bowl coach to Eli. You mentioned that flag football is coming to the Olympics in LA in 2028. You hear about NFL players sort of campaigning to be on that team. Scary to think Lamar Jackson, Tyreek Hill, but I’d like to be a coach on that team. There is no way I’m getting picked. There’s no way I’m getting picked now that Eli’s beat me twice,” Manning said.

Manning humorously noted that his brother Eli has bested him twice as a coach in the Pro Bowl since it switched to a flag football format.
Despite these losses, fans would undoubtedly love to see Peyton Manning coach Team USA in 2028. Having a big name like Manning attached to the effort could also make NFL teams and players more receptive to participating.
Peyton Manning will soon immerse himself in the Olympic spirit as he co-hosts NBC’s coverage of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris next Friday, alongside Mike Tirico and Kelly Clarkson.
This experience will give Manning a firsthand look at the grandeur and excitement of the Olympics, potentially fueling his passion for leading Team USA in the future.
