Which way is the wind blowing in the Windy City?
When the Chicago Bears clinched the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, the prevailing expectation was that they would select Caleb Williams from USC.
However, veteran NFL writer Peter King suggests in his latest Football Morning In America column that the team might take a different path come April.
King speculates:

I suppose the Bears are going to trade the top pick. I know nothing, but that seems to be the way the wind is blowing. What I say: The Bears could keep Justin Fields (and should), and trade the first pick down once or twice, and build the kind of supporting cast a team needs to contend.
The Bears’ decision regarding the No. 1 pick has been a major offseason storyline. Although Justin Fields has shown steady improvement in his first few seasons, the team has struggled to secure wins.
Opting to draft Williams could provide the Bears with an opportunity to reset their salary cap situation. Conversely, retaining Fields for another year would enable the franchise to bolster its roster with cost-effective impact players, with the hope that the former No. 11 pick can capitalize on his dynamic talent.
This situation mirrors the team’s decision last season when they chose to forego selecting Bryce Young and traded the pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for DJ Moore and multiple first and second-round picks.
