The New England Patriots are ushering in a new era following the departure of former Hall of Fame head coach Bill Belichick.
Eager to chart a fresh course in the franchise’s history, the Patriots appear to be embracing a bold “out with the old, in with the new” approach, symbolized by their giveaway of Devante Parker jerseys at the official team store.
Parker, who spent two seasons with the Patriots, recently inked a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in March. Drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2015 from the University of Louisville, Parker showcased his talent during his tenure, notably in a standout 2019 campaign where he posted career-high numbers with 72 receptions, 1,202 yards, and nine touchdowns.
However, aside from his stellar 2019 season, Parker’s production has been inconsistent, failing to surpass 800 receiving yards in his other professional seasons.
In addition to parting ways with Parker, the Patriots have been active in the offseason, securing new acquisitions such as quarterback Jacoby Brissett, running back Antonio Gibson, wide receivers Jalen Reagor and K.J. Osborn, tight end Austin Hooper, among others.
With rookie head coach Jerod Mayo at the helm and a quarterback room featuring Brissett, Bailey Zappe, and potentially a rookie draft pick, the Patriots are poised for a transition period. Consequently, they are widely viewed as potential underdogs in the conference, with predictions placing them fourth in the AFC East behind the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets.
