New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo revealed that he hasn’t heard from Bill Belichick since assuming his new role.
During an interview with Kay Adams, Mayo was asked if Belichick had reached out to him after he got the head coaching position.
He confirmed that they haven’t had much communication since his appointment.
“So, that’s a tough question. We haven’t had a lot of communication since I’ve been here and honestly, for me, my focus is the players,” Mayo explained. “It’s all about the players, and I learned a lot from Bill, I honestly did. X’s and O’s, structure, practice, and things like that, but like I said, it’s a different time, it’s a different era, and hopefully we can have that same success.”
Belichick seems content with focusing on his own pursuits while Mayo works to usher in a new era of Patriots football.
The transition follows the Patriots’ decision to part ways with Belichick after the 2023 season, during which the team missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
Mayo is now fully focused on preparing the Patriots for the 2024 season. With training camp in full swing, he is dedicated to getting the team ready for their preseason games and ultimately their first regular season game on September 8.
Mayo’s task is not just about maintaining the legacy left by Belichick but also about adapting to the evolving dynamics of the NFL. He aims to build a team that can replicate the successes of the past while forging a new path for the future.
As he takes on this challenge, the Patriots’ fanbase is hopeful that Mayo can restore the team to its former glory and bring about a new era of triumphs.
