Tom Brady recently hinted at the possibility of an NFL comeback during his appearance on the Deep Cut Podcast.
While he named the Patriots among the few teams he’d consider rejoining, he acknowledged that his potential ownership stake with the Raiders might complicate his return to the league.
Patriots coach Jerod Mayo, speaking on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show, expressed skepticism about Brady donning a Patriots uniform again. However, Mayo welcomed the idea of Brady joining his coaching staff.
“I love Tom and the door is always open if he wants to come in here and coach, but as far as going on the field, I don’t know,” Mayo said. “…He’d have to come in here and compete and I know he loves competition, but I doubt he’s going to be walking through these doors anytime soon.”

Mayo doubted Brady’s return to the playing field was imminent.
Brady, who will be 47 in August, last played for the Patriots in 2019 and retired for the second time in February 2023.
Following the NFL Draft, where the Patriots secured quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick and added Jacoby Brissett and Joe Milton to the roster, the team’s quarterback situation appears crowded with Bailey Zappe and Nathan Rourke also in the mix.
Discussing the possibility of Brady attending training camp, Greg Hill was skeptical, and Mayo concurred, joking that Brady might only consider returning in November if the team were in a strong position, but even then, he doubted it.
Mayo emphasized that the focus would be on letting the quarterbacks on the roster compete for the starting role during the preseason, casting further doubt on the likelihood of Brady’s return to playing.
