Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has made it clear that he will not use his platform to endorse a presidential candidate, despite recent comments from Donald Trump praising his wife, Brittany Mahomes. Trump, in a Wednesday interview, referred to Brittany as a “big MAGA fan,” sparking media attention, but Patrick Mahomes remains steadfast in his neutral approach to politics.
During a press conference, Mahomes addressed the topic directly, saying, “I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote, to inform people to do their own research, and then make the best decision for them and their family.” The star quarterback emphasized the importance of encouraging people to participate in the electoral process while remaining nonpartisan. “Every time I’m on this stage and I get asked these questions, I’m going to refer back to that because I think that’s what makes America so great.”
Mahomes’ remarks came just a day after Taylor Swift made headlines with her own political statement on Instagram. Swift denounced the circulation of AI-generated images falsely showing her endorsing Donald Trump, stating her real voting intentions. “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote, adding that she plans to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. “The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” she concluded.
In a follow-up phone interview on Fox and Friends, Trump responded to Swift’s post by dismissing her, saying, “I’m not a Taylor Swift fan,” and pivoting to praise Brittany Mahomes. “I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan,” Trump said. He continued, “I like Brittany. Brittany’s great. … She’s a big MAGA fan,” referencing his signature “Make America Great Again” slogan.

This wasn’t the first time Trump has mentioned Brittany Mahomes. Last month, after she seemingly liked and then unliked one of Trump’s Instagram posts outlining the 2024 GOP platform, Trump thanked her publicly, saying, “I want to thank the beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me.”
When asked during the press conference if Trump’s frequent mentions of his wife had any effect on him, Patrick Mahomes responded calmly, making it clear that his focus remains on his family and community, not on political affiliations. “No, I mean, I think at the end of the day it’s about me and my family and how we treat other people,” he said. “And I think you see that Brittany does a lot in the community, I do a lot in the community to help bring people up and give people other opportunities to use their voice.”
Mahomes continued to stress that while political figures might use his family for their own agendas, it doesn’t change how he approaches his personal or professional life. “In the political times, people are going to use stuff here and there but I can’t let that affect how I go about my business every single day and live my life,” he said, staying true to his commitment to remain focused on his role as a leader both on and off the field.
The ongoing spotlight on Brittany Mahomes, particularly due to her growing friendship with Taylor Swift following Swift’s relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has only added fuel to the public interest in the Mahomes family.
Despite this, Patrick Mahomes remains grounded, making it clear that while political speculation may swirl, his priorities lie in his family, his community work, and his commitment to leading his team.
