Travis Kelce’s new look has everyone talking, and it turns out there’s a surprising reason behind his longer hairstyle.
According to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Kelce’s recent hair transformation was inspired by none other than his girlfriend, pop superstar Taylor Swift.
During a town hall session with SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday, Mahomes playfully revealed that he had been trying to convince Kelce to grow out his hair for some time, but it was Swift who finally persuaded him. “I’ve been trying to get him to grow his hair out, and all of a sudden Taylor gets him to do it,” Mahomes joked, shedding light on the influence Swift has had on Kelce’s new grooming choices.
Kelce, who is known for his signature buzzcut fade, surprised fans when he returned to Kansas City for training camp earlier this summer sporting a longer hairstyle.
The sides of his hair remain neatly trimmed, but the top is now slightly longer, giving him a more relaxed and tousled look that loosely falls over his forehead. In addition to the new hairdo, Kelce has also been growing out his mustache while opting to trim down his trademark dark brown beard.
This isn’t the first time Kelce has made headlines with his grooming choices. The 34-year-old tight end has always been open about his style preferences and is no stranger to switching up his look. After winning the Super Bowl in February, Kelce visited celebrity barber Vince Garcia for a fresh cut, which he showcased on social media. Garcia, in an Instagram video, mentioned that Kelce had decided to trim his beard after growing it out for two months, signaling a desire to “start a new chapter” and “stop looking like a Neanderthal,” as Kelce humorously put it.

A month later, Kelce was back in the barber’s chair, this time with his go-to barber Patrick Regan, getting his usual cut in preparation for his new show, “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” Despite his regular buzzcut fade becoming somewhat of a signature look, Kelce was quick to clarify that he didn’t invent the style. Responding to a New York Times article that dubbed it the “Travis Kelce haircut,” he took to his podcast, “New Heights,” to set the record straight: “Can you guys stop telling people I invented the fade? I didn’t. I walked into the barber shop one day, didn’t even know what I was getting. I didn’t invent the fade.”
Kelce’s return to training camp in July followed a busy offseason, where he was frequently spotted traveling across Europe, attending various stops on Swift’s Eras Tour.
The couple’s relationship has been closely followed by fans, and it seems that Swift’s influence extends beyond just their personal lives, even inspiring Kelce’s evolving style.
With his new look, Kelce is embracing a fresh chapter both on and off the field, and it’s clear that Taylor Swift’s impact goes beyond just music, reaching into the realm of NFL fashion as well.
