Heads up, Coach Reid—there’s a new play-caller in town!
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently revealed that pop sensation Taylor Swift, who is famously dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has taken a keen interest in football and is even coming up with her own game strategies.
“She’s genuinely interested in football and asks a lot of insightful questions,” Mahomes shared during an appearance on “NFL on NBC” Thursday. “She’s already drawing up plays, so we might actually have to use one of her ideas this season.”
Swift’s passion for football might have roots in her family; her father, Scott Swift, has long been a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan. However, her deep dive into the sport seems to have intensified over the past year. Since beginning her relationship with Kelce, Swift has frequently attended NFL games and even made a marathon trip from her Japan tour to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl in February.
During the championship game, Swift’s sports knowledge proved useful when she helped rapper Ice Spice understand the game, as Ice admitted she relied on Swift’s cues to figure out what was happening on the field.

Mahomes, who recently visited Swift and Kelce at Swift’s Rhode Island mansion, applauded Swift for her impact on the NFL’s fan base. “It’s been really cool to see the increase in female viewership,” he said. “As a dad to a daughter, it’s amazing to see how much young girls are engaging with football and spending time with their parents watching games.”
Swift’s presence at NFL games has also been credited with boosting viewership. For instance, her appearance at a Chiefs vs. Jets game last October, alongside celebrities like Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, led to a remarkable spike in ratings. Reports indicated that Swift’s involvement helped draw 27 million viewers, a 22 percent increase compared to the previous year’s Week 4 matchup.
As the Chiefs prepare to kick off their 2024 season against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5, it remains to be seen whether Swift will be in the stands.
However, fans can expect her continued support for Kelce throughout the season.
