Patrick Mahomes, the 28-year-old quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, recently responded to body-shaming trolls after an image of him arriving at camp went viral.
Despite coming off a historic season that led the Chiefs to consecutive Super Bowl victories—the first NFL team to achieve this in 19 years—some on social media criticized his physical appearance, suggesting he looked overweight.
During an interview on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Mahomes expressed his surprise at the continued body-shaming, joking about his non-athletic physique. “It kind of surprised me. I kind of thought we had the whole dad bod thing out of the way last season…in the playoffs. But I guess people still haven’t realized that I don’t have abs… Hopefully, one of these days, we can figure out how to get a looser T-shirt. The backpack’s just holding my shirt in.”
Despite the negativity, Mahomes maintained a high road response, focusing on performance rather than appearance.
Last season, he completed 67.2 percent of his passes, throwing for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. In the postseason, his completion percentage rose to 69.8%, amassing 1,051 yards, six touchdowns, and only one interception.
With the Chiefs now regarded as a dynasty, their next challenge is to attempt the first three-peat in NFL history, a feat narrowly missed by the 1990 San Francisco 49ers and 1994 Dallas Cowboys, who both lost in the NFC Championship Game after winning consecutive Super Bowls.
With arguably the best quarterback and coach duo in the league, Mahomes and the Chiefs are well-positioned to pursue this historic achievement.
Their quest for a third consecutive title will begin against the reigning MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium in the NFL Kickoff Game on September 5.
