Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney had a challenging Thursday night as the NFL season kicked off, with the veteran experiencing difficulties in crucial moments during his team’s 21-20 loss to the Lions.
Things got so bad for Toney online that he had to delete his Twitter account.
Toney’s blunders included a dropped pass that resulted in a pick-six and another dropped catch that could have positioned Kansas City for a potential game-winning field goal.
Despite the disappointment among many fans over Toney’s performance, quarterback Patrick Mahomes made a point to support Toney after the game.
Mahomes conveyed his faith in Toney, stating:
“I trust KT. He missed a significant portion of training camp,” as reported by NFL.com. “Things don’t always go as planned. Clearly, he would have preferred to make a few of those catches in the game, but I have confidence that he will be the guy I rely on in critical moments. He’ll make the catch and help us win games, just as he did last year. As he gets more and more opportunities, I’m sure those drops will become a thing of the past.”
In the previous season, following his acquisition by the Kansas City Chiefs from the Giants, Toney put up impressive numbers, amassing 171 receiving yards, 59 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns in seven regular-season games.
During the playoffs, Toney contributed 50 receiving yards and a crucial touchdown that played a pivotal role in Kansas City’s Super Bowl victory.
Toney might not be able to recover from this one.
