Patrick Mahomes has a new friend.
The Kansas City Chiefs selected former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick in Thursday night’s NFL draft.
The Chiefs wide receivers struggled mightily last season with the exception of rookie Rashee Rice, but his future is now in flux due to the March car crash he was involved in and may be suspended for.
That may have played a role in the Chiefs selecting Worthy who ran the fastest ever 40-yard dash at the NFL combine with a time of 4.21 seconds.

Mahomes reacted to the draft selection on X with one simple and very appropriate emoji.
Worthy had 197 catches for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns during his career at Texas.
Following his record-breaking 40-yard dash, Worthy said that he wanted to play for the Chiefs.
“In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs,” Worthy stated in an interview with USA Today. “Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you. They had Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me.”
Well, the Chiefs made Worthy’s perfect world a reality.
It will definitely be exciting to see Mahomes try and recreate what he had with wide receiver Tyreek Hill before the Chiefs traded him to the Miami Dolphins.
