Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, recently sparked a significant controversy with her political stance, but in stark contrast, the Kansas City Chiefs star has been careful to keep his own views out of the limelight.
Brittany, 28, found herself at the center of a social media storm when sharp-eyed users noticed that she had liked a post from Donald Trump, which outlined his electoral manifesto. The reaction was swift and fierce, with many criticizing her public support for the former president. In response, Brittany didn’t hold back, addressing her critics head-on. However, this move left many wondering whether it could strain her newly formed friendship with Taylor Swift, who is known for her liberal views.
While the drama unfolded, Mahomes has remained relatively quiet on political matters, opting to keep his opinions to himself as the 2024 presidential race intensifies. This contrasts with the actions of his Chiefs teammate, Travis Kelce, who, according to CBS, reportedly reached out to Kamala Harris’ campaign about attending the Democratic National Convention (DNC) last week after she was announced as the potential replacement for President Joe Biden. Kelce, however, was later seen attending Kansas City’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night.

Mahomes, on the other hand, has taken a more measured approach to politics. Although he has spoken out on social and political issues in the past, the three-time Super Bowl winner has been careful not to publicly endorse any candidate. During the 2020 election between Biden and Trump, Mahomes joined LeBron James’ “More Than a Vote” campaign, which aimed to increase African American voter turnout. Despite his involvement, Mahomes refrained from revealing who he supported, stating that he didn’t want to influence voter opinion.
In a recent interview with TIME magazine, Mahomes reiterated his stance, emphasizing the importance of personal choice in the voting process. “I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president,” Mahomes explained. “I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.”
In addition to his participation in the “More Than a Vote” initiative, Mahomes has been proactive in encouraging civic engagement within his community. In 2020, he and the Chiefs launched a voter registration and involvement project in Kansas City. Mahomes, alongside former Chiefs teammate Tyrann Mathieu, the Jackson County government, and his own 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, provided the necessary funding to turn Arrowhead Stadium into an official polling place for the 2020 election.
Jackson County, where Kansas City is located, has traditionally leaned Democrat, with nearly 60 percent of voters supporting Biden over Trump in 2020. The county has consistently voted Democrat in the last 12 presidential elections, though Missouri as a whole is a predominantly red state.
Over the past two years, Mahomes and his Chiefs teammates have been invited to the White House by President Biden to celebrate their Super Bowl victories in 2023 and 2024. Interestingly, Mahomes and his team had also been invited to the White House by Trump following their Super Bowl LIV win, but the visit was canceled due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the 2024 election approaches, Mahomes appears determined to maintain his stance of encouraging voter participation without publicly endorsing a specific candidate.
His focus remains on empowering others to make informed decisions, while he continues to lead by example, both on and off the field.
