Long before Patrick Mahomes became the NFL’s top quarterback and a three-time Super Bowl champion, he was a standout player at Texas Tech, where he dazzled fans with his impressive stats as part of the Red Raiders’ Air Raid offense. While Mahomes has since risen to the pinnacle of professional football, his love and loyalty for his alma mater have remained as strong as ever.
Recently, Mahomes demonstrated his ongoing commitment to Texas Tech by making a significant financial contribution to the university’s football program. He and his wife, Brittany, donated an impressive $5 million towards the construction of a state-of-the-art football facility. This donation is part of the larger $242 million South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project, which is set to transform the football facilities at Texas Tech.
Texas Tech Athletics announced this generous gift as the final contribution to their historic Campaign for Fearless Champions, a fundraising initiative aimed at enhancing the university’s athletic facilities. In recognition of the Mahomes’ donation, the walkthrough area in the Womble Football Center will be named after Patrick Mahomes.
Additionally, the university will honor him by naming the quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office in the new South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium after him as well.

This latest contribution underscores the deep connection Mahomes still feels to Texas Tech, where he played from 2014 to 2016. During his time as a Red Raider, Mahomes put up staggering numbers, throwing for over 11,000 yards and 93 touchdowns, while also rushing for 820 yards and 22 touchdowns. His performance against Oklahoma in 2016, where he passed for an astounding 734 yards in a 69-59 shootout, remains one of the most memorable in college football history.
Since his college days, Mahomes has become one of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history. In just six seasons as the Kansas City Chiefs’ starting quarterback, he has already won three Super Bowls and earned two MVP awards. This year, he has the chance to make history as the first quarterback to lead his team to three consecutive Super Bowl victories.
Off the field, Mahomes and his wife Brittany have also made their mark as co-owners of the NWSL’s Kansas City Current. The team recently opened a groundbreaking, women’s soccer-focused stadium in Kansas City, further solidifying the couple’s influence in the world of sports.
With this substantial donation, Mahomes’ legacy at Texas Tech is set to endure, ensuring that future generations of Red Raiders will be reminded of his impact every time they step into the newly upgraded facilities.
For Texas Tech football players, Mahomes will continue to be an inspiration both on and off the field, a testament to what hard work and dedication can achieve.
