Patrick Mahomes has embraced the “dad bod” label with good humor.
Following a shirtless photo that circulated widely in January, after his team’s victory in the AFC championship game, the Chiefs quarterback joked about his physique during an interview with TIME.
“I definitely have the dad bod a little bit,” Mahomes admitted. “But I also have a great body for a quarterback. You’ve got to have some padding to take the hits we take.”
Mahomes is well-known for his love of fast food, proudly endorsing Chick-fil-A and Whataburger, the latter of which he co-owns eight franchises in Kansas City. His fondness for Starburst candy is another well-documented indulgence.
The initial buzz around Mahomes’ “dad bod” started when “Inside the NFL” broadcast his shirtless victory speech. Reacting to the exposure, Mahomes tweeted in jest, “Yoooo why they have to do me like that!?!?!?” adding “#DadBodSZN.” In a follow-up tweet, he humorously pointed out, “Like I got kids!!!!” referring to his son, Bronze, and daughter, Sterling, with his wife, Brittany.

In the same TIME profile, Mahomes touched on the subject of his legacy, stating it’s premature to consider him among the all-time great quarterbacks. “You have to build a consistency of a career,” he explained. Citing legends like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers, Mahomes emphasized the importance of maintaining high performance over many years to be considered in the same league.
With three Super Bowl titles under his belt, Mahomes prefers to focus on playing and leave discussions of his place in NFL history for the future. “That’s something I’ll talk about when I’m done playing—people can make those decisions,” he remarked.
