Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs engaged in some good-natured locker room banter directed at Travis Kelce over his relationship with Taylor Swift.
In a “CBS Mornings” interview on Friday, Mahomes shared that Kelce initially faced a few “jokes” when he started dating Swift. According to the quarterback, there was initial cautiousness, but as Kelce brought Swift around, her personality shone through, making her an embraced member of Chiefs Kingdom.
“At first, I feel like everybody kind of stayed away, just let him do what he was doing,” the quarterback told host NateBurleson.
“And then he started bringing Taylor around and you realize how cool of a person she was and she is. So for us — I mean, it was a couple of jokes here and there in the beginning — but now, she’s just part of Chiefs Kingdom and she’s part of the team.”
Mahomes highlighted the positive dynamic, mentioning how Swift has built a friendship with his wife, Brittany Mahomes. He expressed admiration for how well Swift handles her profession, emphasizing why she and Kelce complement each other.
Since going public with their romance in September, Kelce and Swift, both 34, have integrated into the Mahomes’ social circle. The Grammy winner and mom of two have become close friends, often seen supporting their significant others at Arrowhead Stadium. They even developed a unique celebratory handshake, debuting it at a Chiefs game in October.

Swift also introduced Brittany to her A-list friends, including Sophie Turner, Blake Lively, and Selena Gomez. Last month, Kelce and Swift reportedly visited the Mahomes family at their lavish Kansas City mansion, complete with a football field and a backyard golf course.
However, the growing friendship with Swift has also attracted trolls to Brittany’s social media. She addressed the increase in negative comments, urging them to leave.
Despite the drawbacks, being associated with Taylor Swift appears to bring more positive experiences than negatives for the Mahomes family.
