The Indiana Pacers secured their ticket to the second round of the 2024 postseason by eliminating the Milwaukee Bucks with a commanding 120-98 victory in Game 6 at home on Thursday.
Their triumph sets the stage for a matchup against either the New York Knicks or the Philadelphia 76ers in the next round.
Unfortunately, the game concluded on a contentious note when Bucks guard Patrick Beverley became embroiled in an altercation with multiple fans during the final minutes.
Standing near his team’s bench with two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Beverley threw the ball at a group of courtside fans, striking one individual in the head.
Following this action, Beverley requested the ball back, only to then hurl it back with significantly more force in the direction of the fans.
Despite not facing immediate consequences during the game, Patrick Beverley’s actions are likely to undergo review by the league, potentially resulting in disciplinary measures.
Since the infamous “Malice at the Palace” incident in 2004, the NBA has maintained a strict stance against player-fan altercations, making it probable that Beverley will face a substantial fine and/or suspension.
In Thursday night’s game, Beverley contributed six points, five assists, and two rebounds, shooting 3-for-11 from the field as the Bucks exited the playoffs.
While he showcased an impressive performance in Milwaukee’s Game 5 victory on Tuesday, tallying 13 points, 12 assists, and two steals, tensions occasionally flared throughout the series.
Bucks’ Bobby Portis was ejected from Game 4 following a physical altercation with Pacers’ Andrew Nembhard, underscoring the intensity of the matchups.
