Tragedy struck the NFL world on Monday morning when it was reported that two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead in his grandmother’s home in Florida.
Pat McAfee played with Davis from 2012 to 2016 while he was a punter for the Indianapolis Colts.
An emotional McAfee took to his ESPN show to talk about his former teammate.

“It’s been an interesting vibe all show because we learned this morning that a former teammate of ours, Vontae Davis, was found unresponsive in his house. Vontae was an incredibly cool dude, good guy, nice guy, upbeat guy, energetic guy.”
After speaking on Davis’ character for a couple of minutes, McAfee urged his viewers to “reach out to your people and tell them they’re not alone.”
A former teammate of McAfee’s and Davis’, defensive back Darius Butler, was on the show with McAfee and also emotional as he remembered Davis.
“You never know what people are going through, what they’re dealing with,’ Butler said. ‘It’s a tough time right now, I’ll definitely be reaching back out to everyone, we talk about the locker room a lot, and having those conversations.”
A cause of death for Davis has not been revealed, but no foul play is suspected.
Davis, who was selected as the 25th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, playe for the Colts, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills until his retirement in 2018, which famously occurred mid-game.
While with the Colts, Davis was selected to the Pro Bowl twice in 2014 and 2015.
Davis is also the brother of former two-time Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis who played for the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Washington Commanders.
Davis was 35 years old at the time of his death.
