There is reportedly significant drama unfolding within the German track and field team at the Summer Olympics in Paris, France this week.
German sprinter Luna Bulmahn has allegedly been sent home from the Summer Games due to developing tension involving her boyfriend.
Bulmahn was reportedly upset over not being selected to run in the mixed 4×400 relay over the weekend, a team that included her boyfriend, Jean Paul Bredau. Her disappointment and frustration over this decision appear to have led to escalating issues.
As a result, Bulmahn has now been removed from consideration for the women’s 4×400 relay team as well.
“Soap opera style drama in Germany: Luna Bulmahn complained about not being selected for the mixed 4×4, her boyfriend Bredau stated he wasn’t able to run fast because his girlfriend wasn’t selected. And now Bulmahn is being sent home and Bredau is on probation over 400,” shared Bames Jond.

In Bulmahn’s place, Alica Schmidt, 25, has reportedly been chosen to represent Germany in the relay. According to reports:
“Schmidt, 25, was chosen to start by selectors ahead of fellow 400m runner Luna Bulmahn. This decision led Bulmahn, 24, to kick up a storm, as she believed she was quicker than Schmidt and therefore deserved to take part. She expressed her frustration on social media, saying, ‘Yes, I am the second fastest 400m athlete on paper. No, I was not nominated for the mixed relay.'”
Bulmahn’s exclusion from the mixed relay also denied her the chance to compete alongside her boyfriend, Jean Paul Bredau.
While it is not uncommon for countries to reserve their fastest 400m runners for other events rather than the mixed relays, Bulmahn’s reaction suggests she did not handle the decision well.
