Olivia Culpo, the fiancée of San Francisco 49ers’ star running back Christian McCaffrey, surprised McCaffrey’s mother, Lisa, by purchasing a luxury suite for next week’s Super Bowl as a birthday gift.
Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers will face Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. Lisa McCaffrey had earlier mentioned on her podcast, “Your Mom,” that even her NFL-star son and Culpo couldn’t afford a suite due to the exorbitant prices.
Players typically receive two free tickets to the Super Bowl, with an additional 13 available for purchase at face value. As of Friday morning, only a few suites were available for purchase, ranging from $300,000 for four tickets to a staggering $2.5 million for 20 tickets.
Olivia Culpo responded to a post on Instagram featuring quotes from Lisa, denying their inability to afford a suite and revealing, “fake news! Happy Birthday Lisa. I bought you a suite.”
Despite the hefty costs, Christian McCaffrey is set to earn $11.8 million in 2024 and $12 million in 2025 as part of his contract with the 49ers, signed in 2022 after moving from the Carolina Panthers.
The McCaffrey family, including Lisa’s husband Ed McCaffrey, a former wide receiver for the 49ers who won the Super Bowl three times, would still have faced significant expenses for regular tickets. The secondary market recorded the most expensive Super Bowl ticket prices in history, with an average purchase price on TickPick at $9,815.
The lowest-priced ticket on TickPick for this year’s game was $8,188 on Monday. StubHub also experienced high demand, with an average ticket price of $9,300, although it trailed behind the Super Bowl two years ago. The lowest-priced ticket on StubHub for this year’s game was $6,500.
