This season, the quality of play from the Oakland A’s has been less than stellar, and a recent broadcast call reflected similar struggles.
During a key moment in Friday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, A’s television announcer Jenny Cavnar faced heavy criticism for her handling of an exciting play. With the A’s down 2-1 at the top of the ninth at Camden Yards, Abraham Toro hit a 2-2 pitch to deep right field, driving in the tying run. However, Cavnar’s call was noticeably delayed and lacked the clarity expected at the MLB level.
Listen to how Cavnar described the moment:
Yikes, that was rough.
In her debut season as the A’s TV play-by-play announcer, Cavnar struggled to keep up with the play’s rapid development, failing to describe the ball hitting off the wall until after Ryan McKenna’s throw was already heading towards the infield.

Online viewers compared her call to the infamous “Boom Goes the Dynamite” clip, poking fun at the awkwardness of the moment.
Cavnar stepped into the role in February, taking over for Glen Kuiper, who was dismissed last year after a significant on-air slip-up.
Despite the broadcast gaffe, the A’s pulled off a 3-2 victory in 10 innings.
