Breakups can often be filled with tension, and professional athletes often find their personal relationship issues becoming public fodder.
This week, veteran free-agent pitcher Noah Syndergaard finds himself in just such a situation. His former girlfriend took a swipe at his inability to secure a new team on her podcast.
Alex Cooper, Syndergaard’s ex-girlfriend, criticized him during a recent episode of her “Call Her Daddy” podcast, co-hosted with TikTok influencer Alix Earle, as reported by the New York Post.
“He can’t get a f–king contract. It’s not that I look [at the MLB news], people just send me this s–t,” Cooper said, per the Post.
Earle, who previously dated former Athletics infielder Tyler Wade, could empathize with Cooper’s experience with Syndergaard. Both hosts artfully avoided mentioning their former partners by name, but it wasn’t challenging to figure out who they were referring to.
Cooper and Syndergaard began dating in April 2017, as reported by the Post, but it appears their relationship didn’t conclude on amicable terms.
Last month, the Guardians released Syndergaard after he struggled to regain his once-dominant form, posting a disappointing 5.40 ERA in just six starts.

The 2016 NL All-Star, who commenced the 2023 season with the Dodgers, was traded by Los Angeles after registering a 1-4 record with a 7.16 ERA in 12 starts.
Following several successful seasons as a dependable ace for the Mets at the start of his career, Syndergaard had brief stints with the Angels and Phillies.
Despite Syndergaard’s challenges in resurrecting his career, it seems Cooper has no qualms about throwing shade at her former boyfriend.
