Serbia has had a remarkable week in the world of sports, with Novak Djokovic clinching his 24th Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open on the same day that the country’s basketball team secured a silver medal at the FIBA World Cup.
These accomplishments have given the nation a reason to celebrate, and it’s safe to say that the people of Serbia made the most of it.
On Tuesday, an estimated 50,000 enthusiastic fans gathered outside the City Assembly in Belgrade to give a warm and jubilant welcome to these athletes. The group of athletes included not only Novak Djokovic but also the basketball team that had just secured its fifth consecutive 3×3 title at the Europe Cup.
The evening was particularly emotional for Djokovic, who was moved to tears by the reception he received as he stood on the balcony overlooking the exuberant crowd, proudly displaying his most recent U.S. Open trophy.

Serbia’s second-place finish at the FIBA World Cup was especially remarkable, considering that the team was without the talents of Nikola Jokic. Jokic had opted for a well-deserved break after leading the Denver Nuggets to an NBA title last season.
Without delay, Jokic returned to Serbia after participating in the victory parade in Denver. He has been enjoying life to the fullest, racing horses and letting loose while enjoying the local nightlife.
The “Summer of Jokic” continued on Tuesday night as the superstar joined up with Serbia’s national team at a club after the ceremony.
He was captured on video singing and dancing inside the venue, eventually deciding to rip his shirt off in the spirit of celebration.
Djokovic was also present at the event, but he seemed more content to have a low-key evening with his wife Jelena, choosing not to compete with Jokic and the rest of the Serbian team.
What an incredible group of athletes and celebrations.
