Nike is facing backlash over its design of uniforms for the USA women’s Olympic track and field team ahead of the 2024 Summer Games.
Athletes and critics have voiced strong disapproval, pointing out what they perceive as sexist undertones in the uniforms’ design. Particularly contentious is the women’s one-piece speed suit, which has been described as too “revealing” and inappropriate, raising concerns about athletes feeling uncomfortable and overexposed due to its skimpy cut, especially around the crotch area.
In contrast, the men’s uniforms feature mid-thigh shorts that offer considerably more coverage.

The disparity between the men’s and women’s designs has not only upset members of the USA team but also competitors from other countries.
Femita Ayanbeku, a two-time Paralympian, expressed her dismay publicly, stating, “This is clearly a joke. I’m someone’s mom, I can’t be exposing myself in such ways. Where are the shorts?!” Her comments under an Instagram post about the uniforms highlight the frustration felt by many.
The controversy over these Olympic uniforms comes on the heels of another uniform mishap involving Nike and Fanatics’ new MLB uniforms, which were criticized during the exhibition season for their see-through pants and diminutively printed player names, giving the jerseys a perceived cheap appearance.
These issues with the MLB uniforms have done little to reassure athletes and fans about the upcoming Olympic designs, with many concerned about the potential for inappropriate exposure of female athletes at the Games.
